What Were Your Shocking Statements Really About, Bobby?
Following yesterday’s revelations, and the Valentine campaign’s claim that Bobby Valentine’s language was “not about the people” when he said of renters “…if you’re not owning, you’re not caring,” Valentine Campaign Manager Dan Miller defended the remark by saying:
It’s human nature for renters to “take a little less care” of rental cars or, in an apartment, kitchen cabinets, Miller said.
In response, Stamford Democratic City Committee Chairman Josh Fedeli released the following statement:
“So which is it? Was Bobby Valentine talking about people when he said ‘if you’re not owning you’re not caring’ or wasn’t he? Because his Campaign Manager is quite clearly putting the blame on people who rent their home.
The answer is simple: of course Bobby Valentine meant renters as people. His words are clear as day. Bobby Valentine and his campaign are using language that divides and disparages certain members of our community, in this case the half of Stamford residents who rent their homes, a group that is primarily made up of people of color.
These statements show a real difference in this race between the divisive rhetoric of Bobby Valentine, and the values of inclusion and compassion that Caroline Simmons has fought for her entire life.”
