Early Voting on the Ballot Nov. 8

Ballot Question:

“Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?”

What does this mean?

Currently, the Connecticut Constitution does not permit in-person, early voting. If this amendment is approved, it would allow the General Assembly to pass legislation establishing in-person voting before the day of an election.

Why vote YES?

  • In-person early voting will expand voter access, ensuring a greater number of individuals are able to participate in the democratic process. Our current system restricts in-person voting to one Tuesday a year; early voting will increase the window of days that voters can cast their ballot in-person.
  • This will enable individuals to cast their ballot before election day in person, rather than just by absentee ballot.
  • By extending the number of days voters can cast a ballot, voters can better balance work obligations, school, childcare, and other responsibilities that can otherwise cause a conflict on Election Day. Early voting will provide voters with more flexibility.
  • CT is one of only 4 states that doesn’t allow citizens to vote in the days leading up to Election Day. To learn more details click here.
