A Note From DCC Chair Robin Druckman

The past 24 hours have been difficult for our nation. Political violence has no place in our country, and we all mourn the loss of life, the senseless act of gun violence, and we condemn the fueling of hatred.

The last two weeks have also been a challenging time for our Democratic Party. Differing views about whether President Joe Biden should be our presidential nominee has created uncertainy heading into the August Democratic Convention and these final few months of the campaign.

Regardless of your view on the state of the race, we cannot let our differences derail us from our mission: electing a Democrat to the White House, expanding our majority in the Senate, winning back the House of Representatives, and electing Democrats up-and-down the ballot to represent us here in Connecticut. As Democrats, we put forward our policies and vision for our communities and do the hard work of voter engagement to get our voters out to vote – and that is how we bring about real change.

And that is what the Stamford Democrats are committed to doing for the next four months.

In January 2024, we sent out a mailer to thousands of Stamford Democrats highlighting our priorities for the year, including first and foremost re-electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. We followed up with a postcard to remind Democrats to vote early and vote for Joe Biden in the April presidential primary. Our efforts paid off, with Stamford delivering the highest number of votes in Connecticut for Joe Biden.

And we should be incredibly proud of that statistic and this administration. The Biden/Harris administration has been one of the most successful in recent history. Some of the most notable accomplishments include:

  • Creation of a record number of jobs, unemployment is at a 50-year low, the stock market is soaring, and inflation continues to decline.
  • Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which infused state and local governments with once-in-a-lifetime funding to rebuild roads, bridges, and railways, creating jobs, investing in decades old infrastructure, and boosting the economy.
  • Passage of the Chips and Science Act, which brought manufacturing jobs back to the United States, reducing our reliance on overseas suppliers and creating good paying union jobs.
  • Passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major federal gun safety bill passed in nearly 30 years, which closed gun law loopholes, implemented new gun violence prevention policies, and made investments in school and community safety.
  • Reduced the cost of prescription drugs, including capping the cost of insulin to $35 per month.
  • Appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, as well as over 200 justices, many of whom are women and people of color, to judgeships.
  • Canceled billions of dollars of student loan debt and approved the largest increase in Pell Grants, increasing federal student aid for the first time in over a decade.

With 113 days until Election Day, there is no shortage of work to do, and the Stamford DCC plans to continue to support President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and win two important state representative primaries on Tuesday, August 13th.

And we need you to join us! The fight for democracy requires all of us to step up and do the important work that is needed to win, here in Connecticut and across the country. We hope you will sign up to volunteer with the Stamford Democrats and get involved in our local campaigns.
