DCC Updates

Stamford Democrats were proud to join Democrats from across the state this weekend for the 2022 Democratic state convention! We nominated and endorsed candidates for the United States Senate and constitutional offices for the upcoming election.
The Democratic endorsed candidates are:
United States Senate: Richard Blumenthal
Governor – Ned Lamont
Lieutenant Governor – Susan Bysiewicz
Attorney General – William Tong
Comptroller – Sean Scanlon
Secretary of the State – Stephanie Thomas
Treasurer – Erick Russell

City Updates


This week, Mayor Caroline Simmons joined Congressman Himes, Senator Blumenthal, Superintendent Dr. Lucero, Director of Operations Matt Quiñones, Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski, Transportation Bureau Chief Frank Petise, and Newfield Elementary School Principal Sharon Longo and students to announce that the City of Stamford will receive $2 million in federal assistance to construct and rehabilitate sidewalks.
This federal investment is targeted at communities adjacent to schools and transit facilities. This funding for pedestrian safety was included in FY 2022 community requests through the House Appropriations Committee.

The City of Stamford has released a draft Housing Affordability Plan. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 10th at 7pm, as state law requires each municipality to adopt an affordable housing plan by June 1st, 2022. The Zoom link for the meeting can be accessed here.

The 19th Charter Revision Commission of the City of Stamford will hold two public hearings to get suggestions from the public for changes to the City of Stamford Charter.
The first public hearing will be held on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m., in the cafeteria of the Stamford Government Center (4th Floor, 888 Washington Boulevard). No advance sign-up is required to attend and speak.
The second public hearing will be held on Thursday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m., by webinar. The webinar link can be found here. Anyone wishing to speak at the May 12th public hearing may sign up in advance to speak or submit written comments via this link.
The public may also email written comments to charterrevision2@stamfordct.gov. More information on the Charter Revision Commission can be found here.
State Updates

At midnight on Wednesday, May 4th, the 2022 legislative session came to an end! Thank you to our Stamford delegation for their work and advocacy over the past five months during this short session and for all the work you will continue to do on behalf of Stamford residents. We are grateful for your leadership in Hartford. In the coming weeks, we will send out a wrap-up highlighting the legislation passed this session.
Federal Updates

Congressman Himes, chair of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity & Fairness in Growth, participated in a panel discussion at the Milken Institute Global Conference about public policy and business-led solutions to promote inclusive economic growth and the current state of the economy.

Campaign Announcements

Exciting campaign news! Trevor Crow is running for state senator to represent the 36th district, which covers Greenwich and northern portions of Stamford and New Canaan. This district is currently represented by Republican Ryan Fazio.
Trevor started her career on Wall Street but switched careers to go back to school and follow her true calling of becoming a therapist. She opened her own practice and is eager to use her background and skillset to work to represent the 36th district in Hartford.
Trevor is participating in the Citizens’ Election Program and needs 300 contributions from residents living in any of the towns in the district. The maximum contribution amount is $290.
