The DCC Executive Board amplifies its call for the resignation of Anabel Figueroa as District 8 member of the Democratic City Committee (DCC), and additionally calls for District 4 DCC member Eva Padilla to resign from her seat.
Furthermore, we are deeply troubled by the comments made by Board of Representatives President Jeff Curtis in the August 16th, 2024, Stamford Advocate article, in which Jeff Curtis said that members of the Board of Representatives leadership who signed a letter calling for Anabel Figueroa’s resignation, “chose optics over humanity to a fellow human.”
In this situation, Anabel Figueroa is not the aggrieved person; she repeated these antisemitic and divisive statements about Jonathan Jacobson in public interviews and while knocking on doors, and Jeff Curtis’s defense of her is inexcusable. His statements demonstrate a lack of judgment, understanding, and a failure of leadership at a time when the Stamford community has been deeply impacted and hurt by antisemitism.
The City of Stamford deserves a Board President who will not waver and will stand up for what is right in difficult moments. His actions are unbecoming for an individual holding a leadership role on our city’s legislative body, and consequently, we call on Jeff Curtis to step down as President of the Board of Representatives.
